Hello Confidence, Goodbye Misalignment!

Metal braces are the most prevalent orthodontic option, traditionally involving bands wrapped around teeth and cemented in place. Technological advancements have refined the process, replacing bands with small brackets cemented to teeth for a more discreet appearance and reduced risk of cavities. Ideal for straightening and addressing overcrowding due to their rigidity, traditional metal braces offer precise control for a gradual adjustment, resulting in a perfectly spaced, model smile for you or your child.

TYPES OF BRACES

  • TRADITIONAL METAL BRACES
  • SELF-LIGATING BRACES
  • CLEAR (CERAMIC) BRACES
  • CLEAR ALIGNERS

Meet Our Doctor

Dr. Michael Solomon

Dr. Michael Solomon has been practicing orthodontics since June of 2004. As a teenager, he became interested in various medical professions, but through the guidance of his childhood dentist, he was led toward the oral healthcare profession. Dr. Solomon’s innate attention to detail is in part what makes being an orthodontist so rewarding.

For Dr. Solomon, the most gratifying thing about orthodontics is seeing the transformation in his patients’ self-confidence as they go through treatment. He finds it truly exciting to watch a person who used to hide his or her smile become a person who smiles wholeheartedly and confidently.

Dr. Solomon is ABO (American Board of Orthodontists) Certified and is committed to the highest standard of care. Each person’s needs are both unique and different, and the challenge of creating the best possible outcome for each patient is what keeps his profession exciting.

Dr. Sarah Johnson attended Ohio State University for her bachelor’s in microbiology in 2009 and Wright State University for her master’s in public health in 2010. In 2016, she completed her lifelong goal of becoming a dentist with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from Ohio State University.

After graduation, Dr. Johnson moved to Florida to be closer to her family. She has called Florida home for over 9 years. Dr. Johnson is a member of the American Academy of Facial Esthetics, Florida Dental Association, American Dental Association, Collier County Dental Association, Spear Study Club, and Gulf Coast Dental Study Club.

Dr. Johnson’s sensitive approach, coupled with her expertise in dentistry, creates a relaxed atmosphere and exceptional results for her patients. She utilizes the most updated technology in technique and equipment to provide the highest quality of dental care. Dr. Johnson is trained and enjoys placing dermal fillers and Botox to give her patients the most esthetic results possible.

Your Questions, Answered

Braces are used by an orthodontist to help you improve the look and feel of your smile. There are several different types of braces to choose from, including:

  • Clear braces
  • Ceramic braces
  • Self-ligating braces
  • Self-ligating braces
  • Invisible braces
  • Traditional metal braces

The amount of time spent in braces will vary, depending on the individual patient, because every smile responds differently to treatment. Treatment times can take anywhere from six to 30 months, but most standard treatments last about 18 months.

Braces do not often hurt, though you may feel a small amount of discomfort for a couple days as your teeth, gums, cheeks, and mouth get used to your new braces.

  • Always remember to brush your teeth after every meal and floss at least once a day.
  • Make sure to use toothpaste that contains fluoride, and ask your family dentist if you need a fluoride rinse. This will help prevent cavities!
  • If you take out your retainer to eat, make sure you brush your teeth, floss, and remember to keep your retainer safe in its container so that it does not get lost or broken.
  • Keep your retainer clean, too, by brushing it gently with a toothbrush and toothpaste. You may also soak it in denture cleaner as instructed by Dr. Michael Solomon. Do not put your retainer in boiling water or in the dishwasher.
  • During your treatment, try to avoid foods with a lot of sugar, which increases the amount of bacteria that grows in your mouth, and can cause more plaque and potential cavities
  • Avoid sticky and chewy foods (caramel, chewing gum, gummy bears), hard foods (hard candy, nuts, ice cubes), or any foods that could possibly get stuck in your braces (corn on the cob, bagels, ribs, taffy, etc.).
  • Be sure to schedule your routine checkups with your family dentist. It is recommended that you continue to visit the dentist every six months.

With braces, you should brush your teeth at least three times a day to keep your teeth, gums, and mouth healthy and clean. Brushing regularly will help remove any food that may be caught between your braces.

You should also floss daily to get between your braces where your brush isn’t able to reach. Dr. Michael Solomon can show you how to brush and floss properly once your braces are placed.

Yes! In fact, it’s even more essential that patients receiving orthodontic treatment visit their dentist regularly. With braces, food may be caught in places your toothbrush can’t reach. This causes bacteria to build up and can lead to cavities, gingivitis, and gum disease. Dr. Michael Solomon will work closely with your dentist to make sure your teeth stay clean and healthy while you’re wearing braces.

Playing an instrument or a contact sport may require some adjustment when you first get your braces, but wearing braces will not stop you from participating in any of your school activities. If you play a contact sport, it is recommended that you wear a mouthguard to protect your braces or appliance.
